Washington, D.C.— Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) met yesterday with coordinators and students from the Blue Ridge Job Corps to discuss Senator Webb’s continued support of the program during their trip to Washington for the 2012 Job Corps Policy Forum. The Blue Ridge Job Corps Center is located in Marion, Va.

“Educational and training programs tie in closely to economic development,” said Senator Webb. “I am confident that the combination of vocational, academic, and social skills and training that students receive through Job Corps will make them competitive in today’s job market.”

The Job Corps is an education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that offers a comprehensive array of career development services to at-risk young women and men, ages 16 to 24, to prepare them for successful careers.  At the Job Corps, students enroll to learn a trade, earn a high school diploma or GED and get help finding a good job.  Businesses that hire Job Corps graduates may also be eligible for a federal tax credit.

Funded by the United States Congress, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964.
